With the modern government and its profit oriented economy, mono cultures and deforestation, it is just a matter of time when the last pieces of God made nature becomes part of history. While much of the ancient nature already has been destroyed in past 20-30 years, there still is some true nature left. New exploited areas of mono culture forest need chemicals and pesticide, God-made jungle and wild nature-mix always has been self sustaining and self-healing for thousands and more years. Profit oriented economy plans destroy balance of nature. At the same time profit oriented politics also destroy social peace among local farmers and rural population having peacefully feed the nation with healthy food, fish for thousands of years and lived here for many generations in peace. Americanization of Cambodia is the beginning of the end of a once most beautiful and exotic Kingdom and Khmer culture. Only a miracle or huge disaster can save the Kingdom from self-destruction by profit oriented politicians and foreign influence or foreign exploitation for profit.

A most beautiful excursion by boat is a ride upriver toward waterfalls. What locally is called waterfalls are actually river rapids. During dry season however there is no water flowing down the rapids, thus there is no waterfall during dry season. The boat ride ends just below the "waterfall". Regular daily trips start at 1500 hrs from the small peer 100 meters upriver from post office. The sunset scenery starts around 1700 hrs, hence during your return to Kampot town. Beautiful palms and tropical sceneries along the river make this scenic trips an enjoyable experience for photographers and all hearts who love nature and tropical beauty of a river.

Beautiful river vegetation

The river vegetation along this river is extremely rich with a huge variety of different trees, a variety of palm trees including betel palms and coconut palms. Beautiful bamboo, mangroves and a rich variety of tropical trees and shrubs grow along the river and create a beautiful tropical vegetation scenery for your eyes and heart.

Some of the sea going fishermen live way upstream along the river. By sunset you'll encounter fisher boats often in groups of 3-4 going down river to spend the night fishing at sea. Life is so much easier if you can enjoy a simple life, freelance to be your own boss like these fishermen or the farmers and live / work together with a few friends. Village life is healthy and natural way of life. All helping each other, all acting as one family. Nature is rich in food resources, hence all really necessary for a happy life always can easily be found or grown when living amidst tropical nature.

Nature of Cambodia is extremely varied and rich in different species rarely seen elsewhere. Blossoming trees, bushes, plants of all kind amidst jungle or jungle like growth along the river. Since Cambodia is very rich in water, ponds and rivers and during rainy season flooded huge rice fields - water sustained vegetation is lush and beautiful - like honey for your eyes.
